About Us

In July 2006 a group of CWC members established a new branch of the California Writers Club to take in the western portion of the San Fernando Valley and the outlying areas of Agoura, Simi Valley, and Thousand Oaks. Our charter was granted on July 23, 2006 as the 16th branch of the California Writers Club. Our goals, as stated in the state by-laws, are to educate members in the craft of writing and the marketing of their works.

Writers of all genres are welcome to our branch. Regular members are admitted without charge, as are members of other statewide CWC branches. Guests are requested a $5 donation.

We meet on the first Saturday of each month from 1:30 to 3:30 except July and August at The Motion Picture and Television Fund residence in Woodland Hills. At our meetings, we foster a friendly atmosphere. For those who wish to share their work, an Open Mike starts each meeting. Then we welcome guests and new members, and we highlight our members' recent writing successes.

After a short business meeting and a very social intermission, we are treated to a speaker from the field of writing or a related field. Past speakers include comedian Shelley Berman on the history of comedy, Ray Bradbury on his career in writing and movies, and Harold Gould, MPTV resident, on writing and acting in tv and movies. By having our meetings at the MPTV residence, we are fortunate to have access to Mr.Gould and others in “the business.”

Our branch sponsors writing contests and we publish an occasional anthology. All members are encouraged to participate in our workshops, group activities, social events, contests, and the newsletter.

Our chapter is thriving and continues to grow in the diversity of its members and activities.
